LEADERSHIP PHILOSOPHY
Leadership matters above all else. However, leadership is misunderstood. I have always had a notion that leadership was important but could never clearly define what marked good leadership. Falling back on traits such as charisma or intelligence were unsatisfactory. Trying to figure out leadership was imperative for me as I began my professional life in the classroom and on the coaching field. I entered the Organizational Leadership program at Gonzaga University with a the aim of understanding leadership better and becoming a better leader myself.
I have come to understand leadership can be a misnomer. What makes a person a leader is, plain and simple, influence. It's not a position or title. Rather, true, authentic, genuine, and effective leadership is marked by humility, care, compassion, and commitment (to name a few) to the people and the task present in the life of the "leader."
